- Confirm your pregnancy with an at-home pregnancy test.
- Make sure you are eating well and are getting enough rest.
- Stop smoking (for you and your baby).
- Cut out alcohol and drugs, and check with a physician if you are taking prescribed medications. Some are not safe during pregnancy.
- Get used to the idea of being pregnant!
- Calculate your due date.
- Investigate your insurance coverage for prenatal care, the birth, and baby care.
- Select your medical practitioner, and schedule your first prenatal appointment.
- Choose a hospital or birthing center.
- Continue eating well, and if you are nauseated, try different strategies to alleviate morning sickness.
- Tell your family and friends about your pregnancy.
- Learn about your prenatal testing options, and have the appropriate tests.
- Shop for or borrow maternity clothes. Consider the season during which you will need them most.
- Inform your employer about your pregnancy.
