Month One

  • Confirm your pregnancy with an at-home pregnancy test.
  • Make sure you are eating well and are getting enough rest.
  • Stop smoking (for you and your baby).
  • Cut out alcohol and drugs, and check with a physician if you are taking prescribed medications. Some are not safe during pregnancy.
  • Get used to the idea of being pregnant!

Month Two

  • Calculate your due date.
  • Investigate your insurance coverage for prenatal care, the birth, and baby care.
  • Select your medical practitioner, and schedule your first prenatal appointment.
  • Choose a hospital or birthing center.
  • Continue eating well, and if you are nauseated, try different strategies to alleviate morning sickness.
  • Tell your family and friends about your pregnancy.

Month Three

  • Learn about your prenatal testing options, and have the appropriate tests.
  • Shop for or borrow maternity clothes. Consider the season during which you will need them most.
