Your Cats & Your Pregnancy

  • Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by a parasite. This infection comes from cat and turtle feces and raw meat. The symptoms for you aren't very noticeable, but the infection can cause problems in the development of your baby's brain or eyes. To help avoid this infection follow these guidelines.
  • Wear gloves when you handle soil outdoors. This will keep you from coming in contact with cat or turtle feces.
  • Wash your hands well after working in the garden.
  • It's OK to play with your cat, but have someone else change the litter box. If this is not possible, wear gloves and clean the box every day. Wash your hands well after changing the litter box. (The same applies to pet turtles.)
